Even Elephants help Medical Evangelism

On March 28, 2025, a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, killing over 4,000 people, injuring more than 20,000, and destroying 70% of buildings.

Amid the chaos in Sagaing, your FAME partner stepped in to provide emergency medical care—prioritizing the critically injured, arranging urgent referrals, and performing lifesaving operations. Both children and adults received compassionate care, regardless of background, as the team reflected God’s love in action.

Because of your faithfulness, FAME was able to send emergency funds immediately—but more support is urgently needed.

The medical team responded in Buddhist monasteries and Muslim rehab camps. Meanwhile, FAME friends at Samaritan’s Purse deployed emergency medical teams to Nay Pyi Daw Football Stadium, quickly transforming it into a trauma care and surgery center. Their swift, compassionate response reflected the heart of Christ—proving that love knows no boundaries. Dr. Aung, one of your FAME partners, shared the story of Nay Lin:

When the earthquake struck Sagaing, Nay Lin stood helpless as his home collapsed. Inside, his world crumbled—the ceiling fell, taking the life of his young son and severely injuring his wife. As rescuers pulled her from the wreckage, he faced every parent’s worst nightmare.

We arranged emergency surgery for his wife at a mobile hospital. Holding the relief kit, he told us, ‘Your team was the first light in my darkness.’ Though his son could not be brought back, your compassion helped him take the first step toward healing.”

At FAME, I always say we are partners in Medical Evangelism. Your generosity allows us to work with major global ministries, local indigenous teams, and even neighbors just up the highway in Indy (like IDES)—all to meet the needs of the world’s most vulnerable, in the name of Jesus.

I don’t yet know how much FAME will send in response to this healthcare crisis—but your response will help determine that.

Thank you for your partnership. Your FAME global partners overcome unimaginable challenges—some so extreme that elephants had to help pull the cars of supplies through muddy, impassable roads!

Together, we can keep moving forward—bringing healing and hope to those who need it most.

June Prayer Calendar

Thank you for your faithful partnership with FAME through prayer. We are truly blessed to have you walking alongside us, lifting up our mission partners, volunteers, board members, staff, scholarship recipients, trip participants, and many other needs in prayer.

This month’s prayer calendar includes not only our upcoming short-term mission trips for this year but also a few that have already been scheduled for 2026–2028. These medical mission teams consist of both medical professionals and non-medical volunteers — each playing a vital role in the overall mission and impact of the team.

Please join us in praying for:

  • The team members who have already committed to serve
  • Others to be moved to want to serve on these trips
  • Our host mission partners around the world
  • The individuals who will receive medical care that, as they are treated in the name of Jesus, their hearts may be open to the message of the Gospel.

If you’re interested in learning more about upcoming mission trips, please visit: www.fameworld.org/short-term-trips. We’d love to have you join us!

Additionally, we ask for your prayers over several new sustainable healthcare project grants approved by our Board of Directors—both at the recent April meeting and the Fall 2024 meeting. Pray for the necessary funding to be raised and for each project to become a source of healing and hope, drawing people to Jesus through medical evangelism.

Thank you again for your continued partnership in prayer.

Open Season – Open House Season that is!

Graduation season is here! Like me, you may find your mailbox and inbox filled with announcements for open houses celebrating graduates. But at FAME, we especially celebrate college graduates—particularly those whose education you’ve helped make possible.

FAME’s Impact Scholarship Program exists to support medically focused students in their own countries. Partner ministries nominate promising students for scholarships that enable them to pursue a variety of medical degrees. In return, these students commit to serving alongside their local ministry partner after graduation.

We recently received this message from one of your global partners:

Arvind serving others

“I am writing this with a heart full of thankfulness to express our sincere appreciation for your unwavering support in enabling Arvind to successfully complete his Bachelor’s in Pharmacy.

We are delighted to share that Arvind will be graduating on June 14, 2025. Words cannot fully express our gratitude to you and the FAME family for your generous support that made his education possible.

Arvind is now actively involved in our Mission Hospital and medical camps, contributing significantly in the pharmacy department. His service is already making a meaningful impact in our medical ministry.

We remain deeply grateful for our partnership with FAME in reaching the needy through medical evangelism. May the Lord continue to bless you abundantly as you serve Him faithfully.”

What a powerful reminder that your support not only changes a student’s life—it strengthens entire communities. These graduates face no language or cultural barriers as they serve in clinics and hospitals, bringing immediate and lasting impact to people in need.

Caroline, Kenya
Collins, Kenya
Gideon, Philippines
Happy, Ghana

To those of you who specifically support the scholarship program: thank you! And to all of you who partner financially with FAME—thank you as well. Because of your generosity, young men and women like Arvind are fulfilling a vision of becoming medical professionals who serve their own people with skill and compassion.

You are making a lifetime of difference.

Orphans to Grandmothers, from Medicine to Ministry

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, we at FAME are reminded not only of the sacrifices made for our freedom, but also of the faithful legacy of generosity and hope that you help extend around the world. Your support makes it possible for us to bring healing in the name of Jesus to those who need it most like this beautiful story from the Village of Hope Orphanage, one of our ministry partners:

JA, a young girl placed in the orphanage by government recommendation, has found family and belonging there. Earlier this year, a Village of Hope-sponsored medical evangelism outreach was held in Getafe, just west of the orphanage. Among the patients that day was JA’s grandmother, a chronic smoker suffering from serious lung issues.

After her examination, we provided her with a Ventolin inhaler—something she desperately needed but never imagined she could afford. She was stunned and deeply grateful.

But her healing wasn’t just physical.

As our team shared the power of the Gospel, JA’s grandmother was moved and believed. That moment has sparked a new Bible study in her community, and we are now praying it becomes the foundation for a new church in Getafe—a town where no churches currently exist.

This is the impact of your partnership.

From orphans to grandmothers, from medicine to ministry—you are a part of the story God is writing through FAME. And this Memorial Day, you have the opportunity to make that story even more powerful with a gift that honors the life of someone you love.

To make a special gift this weekend, please visit www.fameworld.org/donate and add the name of a loved one to your memorial or honor gift in the Tribute Section.

Thank you for your faithfulness, your prayers, and your heart for the nations.

In Loving Memory

We are deeply grateful to the following individuals and families who made generous memorial gifts in the last year in honor of  loved ones who continue to inspire us through their memory. These thoughtful contributions help sustain our mission and serve as a powerful tribute to lives well lived.

James and Sandra Keeney honored the memory of Barbara Warren; James and Dawn Savage remembered Bernice Meyer; Janice Harkins paid tribute to Bob and Carleen Lemons; the Jim Records Small Group commemorated Marilyn S. Sheek; and Gary Striegler remembered Mark Redmond.

We also acknowledge gifts made in memory of Mike Steere by Timothy Dye, Oliver Stewart by Steve and Annie Stewart, Patti Meek by Doug and Iva Hackman and friends, Paul Behrens by Patrick O’Brien, and Sandy Haywood by Terry Haywood.

These memorial gifts reflect a lasting legacy of love and we are honored to be part of preserving their memories.

3 yrs. ago AND 56 yrs. ago

What a contrast and still the same goal!

At the FAME Night of Hope on April 26th, two of the interviewees and their stories were amazing contrasts but the same.

I asked Earl Haubner of Central Brazil Mission, “when did you first go to Brazil?” His answer of 1969 began his stories of impact after impact among the people of the Amazon basin and the hundreds of churches began by their ministry. In the last few decades, their churches and discipleship efforts have been connected to the 3 story medical boat on the Amazon River!

The next interview was with Nathan and Justie Wingfield. “ When did you first go to Malawi?” The answer of when they went to adopt a child led to the realization that it was only 3 years ago in 2022 that I first met with them about their dream for a Hospital, Pediatric Clinic, and Staff Housing among the community where they have added two children to their growing family.

53 years apart in their beginning of global impact; but just the same in their mission; TO USE MEDICAL CARE TO OPEN THE DOOR TO SHARE THE GOSPEL just like Jesus did in His earthly ministry.

I would like you to watch the attached video (link below) about the impact YOU have had (you are FAME) among the people of Malawi! Thousands of people around the world feel the same way about YOU – your generosity and partnership are changing lives and spreading the word of God!

Hope in Malawi

Once again the FAME Night of Hope had stories that emphasized the seeds of Hope which you spread. The funds raised for the “Yes! Fund” during and after the event are enough to provide for the clinic and hospital projects that were proposed during the event!

Thank you for your partnership and generosity!

You Helped a Motorcycle Accident Survivor

Carlos, just before his 17th birthday, was riding second on a motorcycle when a large dog came out onto the road. The motorcycle couldn’t avoid the dog and Carlos was thrown rather violently from the bike. Between his friend and himself, he suffered the most severe injuries- a gash on his left thigh which was almost but not quite hitting his femoral artery as well as another severe road rash and cut on his right shin. He helps support his mother, sisters and a handful of nieces and nephews. Being one of the main earners for his family, they didn’t have the funds to take him to the free clinic daily for wound cleaning.

That is where a FAME partner got to step in.

They called and asked if we could come and help clean his wounds and provide care.

For two weeks I went to their house and helped wash the wounds, change bandages, and reapply the ointments. It might sound silly, but FAME’s supply of anti-adherent gauze pads were the only ones we could find. NOT a single medical supply or pharmacy here sells that style of gauze. On three occasions I took him to checkups and stitches removal at the free government run clinic and hospital. They were so impressed at how quickly his skin healed.

The materials that FAME supplied provided me the opportunity to not only provide medical healing but a time to read scripture and pray with the family. Carlos is not a believer and already has struggles with drugs (selling and using) as well as alcohol. We have known him for 5 years and with this accident, he realized how the Lord watched over him. We continue to pray for Carlos and for his heart to continue to be softened towards the Lord.

That is exactly what you make possible every day- as you partner with FAME, supplies are shipped, teams are sent, clinics are built, and ambulances are acquired.

Thank you for your partnership!

May Prayer Calendar

Thank you for your continued partnership with the medical ministry of FAME through your faithful prayers. We are truly blessed to have so many lifting up the ministry and the people we serve around the world.

This month, we ask you to join us in prayer for two short-term medical mission teams heading to the Philippines and Honduras.

Our first team will be working alongside the dedicated staff of Charles Selby Memorial Hospital in Aparri, Philippines. There, they will conduct multiple medical outreaches in villages throughout the area. These outreach efforts will not only provide basic care, but more importantly, they will help our Filipino partners build personal relationships with those who come to receive treatment—creating opportunities to share the good news of Jesus and bring not just healing, but lasting transformation

Our second team, comprised of college students from Corban University, will serve with our mission partner His Eyes in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We are excited to see how God will use their time, energy, and passion to bless and serve the people there.

Please pray for each of the participants on these trips, for our mission partners in the Philippines and Honduras, and for the individuals and families they will serve. Pray that God works through our teams in every interaction, so that everyone receiving care not only gets the treatment they need but also experiences the love of Christ.

We also invite you to lift up our FAME volunteers who give of their time and talents each week to further the ministry. We would not be able to do all we do without their behind-the-scenes service that makes it possible for FAME to reach communities all around the world.

Finally, as Memorial Day approaches, may we all take time to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. Their sacrifice is not forgotten.

Thank you again for standing with us in prayer.

Blessings in the coming month.

The Doors You’re Opening May Surprise You

We often talk about “open doors,” but the doors opened by FAME might be different than you imagine.

Yes, there are open doors for the Gospel—because every patient is treated in the name of Jesus. There are also doors opening for new hospitals, like the one you recently helped open in a slum in Nairobi, Kenya. This is not only the only hospital in the region, but a Level 4 hospital, providing critical services unavailable anywhere else.

There are doors opening to clinics that will be the first point of contact for people who have never heard the name of Jesus.

There are doors opening to ambulances, carrying the most vulnerable in critical condition—transporting them with both medical care and the compassion of Christ.

And one of the most joyful “open doors” we witness regularly is when a shipping container finally arrives after months of travel by land and sea. The moment the container doors swing open, communities celebrate. Inside, they find medical equipment and supplies—gifts from people like you—donated in Central Indiana and beyond, now ready to serve some of the world’s most remote and underserved areas.

Because of your support, children dance, joyfully carrying packages from inside the container. Strong men and women unload life-saving equipment, tools that will serve their people with the love of Jesus.

Thank you for opening these doors and making life-saving care possible around the world.

Click here for a video of the shipping container being unloaded.

Early on the First Day of the Week…

…while it was still dark—the team set out.

Easter morning was going to be unforgettable, as they planned to visit a young church nestled in the jungle mountains. Excitement filled the air as they drove to the trailhead, ready for the adventure ahead. Upon arrival, they unloaded their supplies and began the three-hour hike, hoping to arrive by sunrise to encourage this new congregation.

As the sky began to brighten, the team eagerly anticipated catching a glimpse of the village. But as the sun rose higher and the trail grew warmer, it became clear they had taken a wrong turn somewhere after crossing a few ridges. Eventually, the edge of a village appeared.

Children were the first to run out and greet them. As translators began speaking with the adults, they realized they had arrived in a completely different village—one that had never heard of the young church they were trying to visit.

As the team explained their purpose, the villagers asked, “What is a church?” and then, “Who is Jesus?” Finally, they asked, “Can you tell us about Him?”

What better opportunity could there be—on Resurrection Day—than to share the good news of Jesus with people who had never heard? The team leader Paul, from Iowa tells, “After speaking to the crowd which had gathered about Jesus, who He is, what He has done, and how they can have their sins washed away we lingered the rest of the day. Many responded to the gospel, and others after having some simple medical needs addressed were very interested in traveling to the village with the church to learn more. The good news attached to the loving health care made a great impact.”

There are still millions who do not yet know the Hope we celebrate on Easter morning. Thank you for partnering with FAME to help bring help and hope to the world’s most vulnerable—through medical evangelism.

With gratitude for you and hope because of Jesus,

Bill Warren
